Teen star Julia Barretto has admitted that she doesn’t want to talk to her grandmother Inday and Aunt Claudine Barretto while tension in their family is still high.
During the press launch of her upcoming telefantasya “Cofradia,” the newbie actress refused to meddle in their family feud, adding that she wants to veer away from her elders’ problems.
“I want everything to be okay and calm muna between the magkakapatid and mag-iina before I (make a move), sila na muna,” she explained. “Gusto ko sila muna ‘yung magka-ayos, maging quiet muna bago mag-usap-usap.”
Showbiz watchers and netizens first got wind of the alleged Barretto spat brewing from an issue that stemmed online. Gretchen and Julia’s mom Marjorie apparently responded to an “anonymous” Instagram bully that supposedly threatened to derail the blossoming showbiz career of Julia. Netizens and showbiz wags suspected the “bully” to be Claudine.
The fray heated up after Inday defended Claudine and issued a statement disowning Gretchen. Siblings Gia and Joaquin also got involved in the brouhaha.
Asked if she believes that Claudine could make such threat, she answered uneasily, “For me? Na hindi niya ‘yun magagawa? — Yes. I don’t wanna ano talaga, comment about that, talk about that because ‘yung mga pinag-uusapan ng mga Tito, Tita ko, my mom, sa kanila na lang ‘yun.”
She, however, disclosed that she heard some spurs about Claudine, but she maintained “ayoko na lang pansinin.”
Nevertheless, Julia poured praises on her aunt, whom she called her idol. She admitted that she wants to follow Claudine’s career path “kasi ang gaganda ng mga teleserye niya, ‘yung mga movies niya.”
The 16-year-old actress claimed that she inherited her acting skills from Claudine and she would also love to do her Aunt’s previous roles.
She recounted that she’s been “super close” to Claudine before, noting, in fact, that she used to be “with her every day, grocery every day, sa house every day, movies, kain every day.”
Notwithstanding the controversies, Julia said, “The thing about our family is kahit gaano katagal kayong hindi nagkita, ‘pag nagkita kayo parang hindi matagal ‘yung (nawala) parang close pa rin kami, pareho pa rin yung mag ginagawa namin.”
The father’s advice
Aside from the ongoing issue hounding her mother’s side of the family, Julia also revealed that she barely speaks to her father Dennis Padilla.
She clarified that she’s okay with her dad but their communication has been reduced lately due to his recent political campaign as a board member in Laguna, and busy schedule for movie project.
She disclosed that they actually went out for a pizza before the campaign period began.
Meanwhile, in a separate report on “Startalk TX,” Dennis disclosed that he just texted Julia regarding detractors and issues involving their family..
“Tinext ko naman sina Julia. Sabi ko Julia ’wag ka nang makinig sa mga ’yan, mag-concentrate sa studies and ganu’n talaga sa larangan ng pulitika maraming nasasaktan at maraming sinasaktan,” he said.
